I had all my passwords saved in Firefox on Windows XP, I wanted them in Firefox on Ubuntu.
I could have just wrote them down by logging into Windows and using the show password option in Firefox, but that's too much work and I couldn't be bothered so I did it another way.
No idea if this is the best or safest way, but it was the easiest for me.
Using Ubuntu I browsed to
Documents and Settings/[WindowsUSERNAME]/Application Data/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default
and copied key3.db and signons.sqlite
Then pasted them into
/home/[UbuntuUSERNAME]/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default
And now my saved passwords are working in Firefox on Ubuntu.
